There is a common disease, an outbreak in the land of mediocrity that has been wrecking havoc. It has caused many people to be immobile, unable to move from where they are.
This disease is so deadly but the average person can contract it and not know that he or she has it.
This disease is called “excusitis”.
What is excusitis?
Excusitis is a disease of the mind. The victim without knowing he/she has the disease will find any and every reason to make an excuse about any and every thing!
You will discover that Excusitis explains the difference between the person who is going places and the fellow who is barely holding his own. You will find that the more successful the individual, the less inclined he is to make excuses but the fellow who is going nowhere and has no plans to get anywhere always has a book full of reasons why life does not work out for him.
Their vocabulary is full of words telling ‘why they don’t, why they can’t, and why they aren’t what they are supposed to be
Study the lives of successful people and you will discover that many could have made excuses but they didn’t, instead they found a way to make things happen!
Helen Keller for example could have used her disabilities (being deaf and blind) to tell herself that she could not amount to anything but she did not allow herself to be a victim. Instead she found a way to write books, to travel the world and teach and she also enrolled and completed university with the highest award.
Robert Kiyosaki, Author of the book ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ could have said no publishing house wants to publish my book so I didn’t bother with it but he didn’t.
J.F Kennedy could have said I am too young to be the president of the United States of America but he didn’t.
All of these exceptional individuals had reason to succumb to the disease that affects many but they chose to rise above it.
Like any other disease excusitis gets worse if it is not treated properly. If left untreated it gets rooted in the mind and the person becomes a victim finding an excuse or reason for his deficiencies and holding on to it forever until he is therefore bound forever.
Do you have this kind of disease?
Do you know anyone with it?
Remember, if they are not cured of it they will remain in the land of mediocrity forever and that would be a grave tragedy.
“How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.” Proverbs 6:9-11
