As we journey to the end of another year and reflect on some of the things that have happened some of us will consider the year a success while others won’t. Nevertheless despite what we may feel about the year, time is passing by.
Now we find ourselves looking forward to another year and many have already begun to contemplate resolutions for the New Year and goals they want to accomplish. There are many things that we all want to accomplish but only time will tell.
What is time? Time is that special commodity that we can never own. We cannot purchase or sell it; we can only use it to our advantage. Once time is passed we cannot go back to it, it just keeps on moving.
Time and seasons are instruments of measurement, assessment and planning. It is God who created it that way for human beings. Time is an effective tool in the hands of God in planning and executing His plans but he is not bound by it. God is eternal, He is ‘the High and lofty One who inhabits eternity’ (Isaiah 57:15).
Time was created for us so we can apportion our pains, disappointments, setbacks, triumphs etc. Nothing in the physical realm is eternal. Everything has a beginning and an end which is beneficial to us. With time we can heal, we can get over setbacks, schedule and reschedule our lives.
Can you imagine a headache in eternity, a pain that never ceases? Can you imagine failure or a divorce in eternity? Without the measure of time these things would go on forever, there would be no seasons. If God did not create time and seasons, there would be no end to terror, sickness, disease, misfortune, misunderstandings, quarrels, poverty and illiteracy, failures and disappointments.
In eternity change is impossible, everything stays the same forever but with time change is possible and we now exist in the realm of possibilities. In time our failures can become successes, sicknesses can be healed, a child can grow into an adult and a person who is lost can be redeemed.
As we approach another year let us consider this. Absolutely nothing that we have faced in 2013 is fixed. Change is still possible while we have time. Let us try to plan for the New Year and seek to execute our God given purpose. The time we now have is precious and we cannot afford to waste it.
How we spend our time is how we spend our lives. Let us therefore place high value on what we spend our time doing. For the New Year let us try to do our best in everything but not over commit. As we come to the end of the year let us reflect on the successes we have gained and also the failures so we can learn from them. The lessons have been many.
Let us endeavor to use the time we have wisely. The opportunities before us are endless. Let’s make the most of every God given opportunity and not let any slip through our hands.
